WHRB Pennypacker Hall

WHRB Pennypacker Hall, 387 Harvard St.

Pennypacker Hall, once a dormitory for Harvard University freshman, is also home to WHRB-FM (95.3 FM) Harvard Radio. The station, run entirely by students, has also been broadcasting the ironically titled “Hillbilly at Harvard,” which features blues, bluegrass, country and old-time music, since 1948. On-air folk music programs have been hosted by now celebrated folk musicians such as Tom Rush, who hosted the “Balladeers” program during his time at Harvard. Many musicians who return for gigs in the area regularly visit “Hillbilly,” which also hosted a reunion of the Charles River Valley Boys, Jim Rooney, Mitch Greenhill and Peter Rowan on the 50th anniversary of the opening of Club 47, in January 2009.
“Hillbilly at Harvard” is broadcasted Saturday mornings from 9am-1pm. For more information see WHRB’s website, located at http://www.whrb.org/.
